    The Empire Hotel

Chuck Bass buys and runs the Empire from Season 3 onward. The red rooftop neon sign is the real one, still lit above West 63rd Street, and it is the hotel shot fans recognise instantly.

Filmed on location — exterior, lobby and rooftop bar — across Seasons 3 to 6. The hotel still leans into it: its own site calls itself Chuck Bass's home.

    • 44 W 63rd St, New York, NY 10023
    • Lobby bar and rooftop are open without a room
    • The most affordable of the three — a standard Upper West Side boutique rate.

    Lotte New York Palace

The fictional Palace Hotel, where Serena van der Woodsen and her family live in the early seasons. The gated Villard Houses courtyard on Madison Avenue is the entrance you see the van der Woodsens arrive at again and again.

The courtyard and exterior are genuine on-location filming from the pilot onward. Most of the family's suite interiors were built on a soundstage rather than shot inside the hotel.

    • 455 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10022
    • Courtyard, lobby and bars are publicly accessible
    • A full luxury Midtown hotel opposite St. Patrick's Cathedral.

    The Plaza Hotel

The Plaza appears in the series as the Upper East Side's most formal address, and the Pulitzer Fountain and Grand Army Plaza directly outside it are a recurring Gossip Girl backdrop.

The Plaza is one of New York's most filmed landmarks, so scene claims about it travel fast. We list it for the appearances and the fountain out front rather than repeating episode details we cannot verify.

Hotels often listed as Gossip Girl locations — but unconfirmed

These four come up constantly in fan lists. We looked for a documented on-location filming credit for each and did not find one, so we keep them off the list above rather than pass on a claim we cannot stand behind.

    • The St. Regis New York

      2 E 55th St

Often named online as the venue for Blair's royal wedding reception. The wedding ceremony was filmed at St. James' Church on Madison Avenue; we found no on-location credit placing the reception at the St. Regis.

    • The Carlyle

      35 E 76th St

Bemelmans Bar is famous on screen — but the credit fans remember is Sex and the City, not Gossip Girl.

    • The Mark Hotel

      25 E 77th St

A block from the Met Steps and very much the right kind of Upper East Side hotel, with no Gossip Girl filming credit we could confirm.

    • The Standard, High Line

      848 Washington St

Le Bain and the Boom Boom Room come up in downtown nightlife lists; we found no Gossip Girl location credit for either.

The Empire, the Palace and The Plaza sit a short ride apart. Our private pedicab route links all three with the rest of the Upper East Side — 2 Hours, $149 per adult, photo stops at every hotel, 5.0 stars across 383 verified Google reviews.

All pedicab tours meet at 1700 Broadway in Midtown Manhattan.

    Gossip Girl Hotels FAQs

    • What hotel was Gossip Girl filmed at?

Two hotels do almost all of the work. The Empire Hotel at 44 W 63rd St is Chuck Bass's hotel from Season 3 onward and the one with the red neon rooftop sign. The Palace Hotel — today the Lotte New York Palace at 455 Madison Ave — is the van der Woodsen family's home base, filmed at its Villard Houses courtyard from the pilot onward.

    • Which hotel is the Gossip Girl hotel?

If you mean the one fans picture first, it is The Empire Hotel on West 63rd Street: Chuck's hotel, filmed inside and out. If you mean the hotel a character actually lives in, that is the Lotte New York Palace on Madison Avenue.

    • Which hotel is Serena van der Woodsen's hotel?

The Palace Hotel, now the Lotte New York Palace at 455 Madison Avenue. Serena lives there with her family in the early seasons. The semicircular courtyard framed by the 1882 Villard Houses is the entrance fans recognise, and it is open to the public.

    • Is the Empire Hotel from Gossip Girl real, and can you stay there?

Yes. The Empire Hotel is a real, operating hotel at 44 W 63rd Street beside Lincoln Center. You can book a room, and you can walk into the lobby or go up to the rooftop bar without staying. The red neon sign outside is the exact one from the show.

    • Can you stay at the Gossip Girl hotels in NYC?

All three are working hotels, so yes. The Empire is the most affordable, and the Lotte New York Palace and The Plaza are the luxury choices. Rates move constantly, so book directly with each hotel — we do not sell hotel rooms.

    • Where is the Palace Hotel from Gossip Girl?

455 Madison Avenue at East 50th Street, opposite St. Patrick's Cathedral, operating as the Lotte New York Palace. The courtyard is publicly accessible and takes about a minute to reach from the sidewalk.

    • Was The St. Regis in Gossip Girl?

It is widely repeated online that Blair's royal wedding reception was filmed at The St. Regis. The ceremony itself was filmed at St. James' Church on Madison Avenue, and we could not confirm an on-location credit for the reception, so we do not list the St. Regis as a confirmed filming hotel.

    • Which Gossip Girl hotels can you visit in one day?

All three. The Empire is by Lincoln Center, and the Lotte New York Palace and The Plaza are a short ride apart in Midtown, so an afternoon covers the set comfortably — which is exactly how our private routes are built.

    • Do your tours stop at the Gossip Girl hotels?

Yes. Our private pedicab routes pass The Empire Hotel, the Lotte New York Palace and The Plaza, with photo stops and the scene details at each one. Every route is private and we are rated 5.0 across 383 verified Google reviews.
