Dan Humphrey is Gossip Girl's outsider, its narrator and — in the finale — its author. Played by Penn Badgley, he is the character whose New York looks least like everyone else's, and that is exactly why his locations are worth visiting.
Who Dan is
A scholarship student from Brooklyn at a school full of Upper East Side dynasties, Dan spends six seasons half inside a world that never fully accepts him. He writes about it, resents it, marries into it, and is eventually revealed as the voice that has been narrating it all along.
The Humphrey loft in DUMBO
The family apartment exterior is 455 Water Street in DUMBO, Brooklyn. It is the show's only regular location outside Manhattan and the visual shorthand for everything separating Dan from Blair and Chuck — the Humphrey loft location page has the building, the address and the scenes shot there.
The school steps
St. Jude's shares its facade with Constance Billard: the Museum of the City of New York, Fifth Avenue at 103rd Street. Dan's morning arrivals there set up the show's class dynamic before a line is spoken.
Upper East Side crossings
Dan's Manhattan scenes cluster around the Met Steps, the Palace Hotel on Madison Avenue and the Fifth Avenue blocks nearby — always as a visitor rather than a resident, which is how the show frames every one of those shots.
Central Park
Bethesda Terrace and the paths around it host several of Dan's quieter turning points, and they are minutes from the Upper East Side stops.
The reveal
Dan is revealed as Gossip Girl in the series finale, "New York, I Love You XOXO" (Season 6, Episode 10) — the ending that reframes every post from the pilot onward.
